An open letter to you: ‘Give assistance to my FIRST LOVE’

By Anna Jackson, Esq.

You may ask who or what is my First Love.  Well, my FIRST LOVE, is Southern University—especially the band, the Human Jukebox. Many have enjoyed the performance of the band either at SU games, parades, Saints games, Presidential Inaugurations, or at other events.

They are (let’s say it together), “often imitated, but never ever duplicated.”  Well now the band is not doing well financially and can use the assistance of its beloved alumni, fans, and supporters to come to its assistance.

The band is having a fund raiser, Jag Fest 2011, on Oct. 22, 2011. If you can attend, please do.

If you cannot attend the event and would like to donate to the band, please fill out the image below and send back to the address listed.  Make checks payable to the Southern University Foundation (Memo Section:  SU Band) or visit https://foundation.sus.edu/payment.html to give online.

The band has a goal of 5,000 patrons.  As a Patron (or Membership as it is listed on the form), you donate $50 to the band and receive the items listed on the form.  But, most importantly you assist the band.  And, who doesn’t want a band calendar (I know that I do). Twelve months of the Human Jukebox, you gotta love it!

And, to the band’s credit, when I called to inquire to get further information about the event and the fundraising efforts, my information was brought to me personally by the band director himself, Mr. Lawrence Jackson.  Now, how is that for service and dedication.  So, please donate to our beloved band, and let’s make sure the Human Jukebox can travel to games, purchase instruments, but most importantly, let’s make sure it will be around for years to come to amaze the crowds.

From one Jag who bleeds blue and gold, please share this info with others and show your support.

Kudos to The Southern University System Foundation team for this creative campaign. Call the Foundation at (225) 771-3911 for more information.
